Sydney FC insist coach Lavicka not under pressure

Sydney FC insist coach Vitezslav Lavicka is not about to be shown the door. The defending champs prop up the league table after a disastrous start to the season.

Sydney chief Edwin Lugt told the Daily Telegraph: "Vitza [Lavicka] has a contract through to the end of March and the owner [David Traktovenko] understands how difficult it has been for him with so many injuries to our top players.

"He [Lavicka] came here last year and turned it all around for the club, winning a championship. Everyone talked about him as a great coach. Suddenly, he's not?

"We have every confidence in him that he'll turn it around once we get Terry McFlynn, Alex Brosque and Nicky Carle back.

"It is certainly not a crisis, nor are we panicking. If we had a relegation system where we were bottom and only had a few matches to play then we'd definitely be worried.

"When we had our best team on the park for the first game against Melbourne Victory we showed what we could do.

"But everything that could go wrong did go wrong since then. We went into the game yesterday against Wellington without three of our biggest name players but the performance was much improved on the previous four games."
