Sweden coach Janne Andersson admits he tried to convince Brentford defender Pontus Jansson to come out of international retirement.
Andersson confirmed calling the former Leeds defender before naming his World Cup qualifying squad yesterday.
He said, "I have had contact with Pontus Jansson, we talked a couple of weeks ago, he was not shocked that I called but when we brought it up, he thought for a couple of days.
"Then Pontus said 'no thank you'. Pontus is very happy with life right now."
He continued: "I would have liked to have had Pontus. He knows our way of playing, so I felt no strangeness to call him. He played for us in the Nations League and the last two matches he was injured. Then he had an operation in January."
