SWANSEA v SOUTHAMPTON RECAP: Another clean sheet for in-form Saints

Southampton moved up to sixth place on the Premier League table courtesy of a 1-0 win over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.

Ronald Koeman's Saints produced their sixth straight shutout, all of which have come since Fraser Forster's return, which has seen them extend their time without conceding a goal to just over 540 minutes.

Shane Long scored the only goal of the contest which came in the form of a 69th-minute header from James Ward-Prowse's cross.

The victory allowed Southampton's unbeaten run to extend to six matches, of which they have won five, while Francesco Guidolin's Swans who remained 16th on the table, four points clear of the bottom three.

TALKING POINTS

- Three matches without a win for Swansea. Is that a worry or are do they have the quality to keep clear of the likes of Sunderland, Newcastle and Norwich?

- Southampton are the form team of the competition. They are impossible to score against and getting the job done at the other end. A top-five finish now in their sights.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Swansea next take on second-placed Tottenham Hotspur on February 28 as Southampton take a similar break before hosting Chelsea on the 27th.

QUOTES CORNER

Swansea boss Guidolin on the performance:

"For the first time in my five matches here I saw my team play not very well," Guidolin said.

"I don't know why we did not play well. This is my first month and it is difficult to understand anything."

Southampton's Koeman on his side's prospects:

"If Leicester can win the title, then we can finish fourth or fifth.

"We are only one point below Manchester United after today and my team is looking very comfortable.

"We had a difficult start to the season and a difficult period in December, but we are back fighting and looking to finish as high as possible in the table."
