Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has hopes of signing permanently Villarreal midfielder Jonathan de Guzman.

The South Wales Echo says it is thought Villarreal are open to offloading the midfielder, although Swansea could still push for a further loan if there is no room for manoeuvre over the fee.

It is thought Swansea have stepped up their pursuit of the former Mallorca man, Jenkins believed to have met with the playmaker's representatives as they continue to press ahead with transfer plans against the backdrop of Michael Laudrup's publicly aired frustration over the hunt for players.
