Swansea offer Wigan target Bodde new contract

Swansea City are offering Wigan Athletic target Ferrie Bodde a new contract.

Latics chief Roberto Martinez - who has already raided his old side for Jason Scotland and Jordi Gomez - saw his £4million bid for Bodde rejected by Swansea.

Now new Swansea boss Paulo Sousa insists the Championship side won't be bullied into losing the 26-year-old Dutch midfielder. And he says he's ready to open talks with Bodde, who is close to a return after nine months out with a knee injury, on a long-term contract after reaffirming the club's not-for-sale stance.

Sousa said: "He's a player who belongs to us and we want him back playing for us as soon as possible to help us.

"I have said from the start that he has a contract with us and we are looking after him because he can help us and he can improve us.

"And I have seen he is happy here. He is settled here, his family is settled and he wants to stay.

"The best deal for the player is for him to remain with us.

"He is a Premier League player and he will go there ñ and I hope it will be with us."
