Swansea mourn death of club president Farmer

Swansea's club president Professor David Farmer has passed away at the age of 78. The prolific author and historian started supporting the Swans having been taken to his first match in 1938 at the age of six.

He later became non-executive director in August 1997 before stepping down in October 2001 to become club president, maintaining his responsibilities within the Welsh outfit's youth development structure.

Chairman Huw Jenkins told the club's official website: "It's a huge loss for everyone. He was a family man, a true gentleman and Swansea City through and through.

"There was nothing he didn't know about the club and thanks to his expertise, detailed research and hard work, the history of Swansea City will stand the test of time. The game has lost one of its great ambassadors and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time."
