Swansea boss Monk: Our system brings out Shelvey best

Swansea City boss Garry Monk feels his new midfield structure can get the best from Jonjo Shelvey.

Shelvey faces former club Liverpool tonight.

"Jonjo always seems to grab the headlines against Liverpool, let's hope he does it for the right reasons," said Monk.

"Jonjo's in good form and has had a very good month, showing bits of what we know he can do and what we're pushing Jonjo to do.

"Whenever you play against a former club you are probably highlighted that bit more. We know he's really fond of that club, he always wants to show what he can do and hopefully he can do that on the night."

Shelvey's upturn in form has coincided with Monk's decision to switch to a midfield diamond, and Monk admits he has been impressed with how quickly he has adapted.

"You can see that it is a system that suits him," said Monk. "He has taken on the challenge really well and it's good to see.

"But he knows it's still a long way to go for him, there is still lot of room for improvement and it is good to see him pushing himself."
