Suriname coach Gorre: Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldum helping fund Holland training camp

Suriname coach Dean Gorre has revealed Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum is among players helping to fund the country's federation.

Gorre has just led the nation to next year's Gold Cup and feels only a lack of finances is holding the country's footballers back.

"I am convinced that we are going to be in the top three of the CONCACAF, which now consists of Mexico, the United States and Costa Rica," Gorre told Ziggo Sport.

"We definitely have a chance to reach the World Cup in Qatar in 2022. And we will definitely perform well at the Gold Cup."

He continued: "We are in the process of raising funds in the Netherlands. One of the things we have done is that we have asked footballers if they have anything left for the training camp of Suriname in the Netherlands. Boys like Jeremain Lens, Quincy Promes and Georginio Wijnaldum are contributing. Fortunately, FIFA has money available to let the boys fly over."
