Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has been defended by a surgeon after Daniel Wass' knee injury was confirmed.
The Dane broke down during defeat at Barcelona on Sunday, with it now emerging he will be missing for months.
When first hitting the turf, Wass was urged to get up by Simeone, who sought to pick him up as time ticked away.
"I don't think it's a reason to stigmatise Simeone," Dr. Ripoll, a knee trauma specialist, said on Radio Marca.
"Simeone is a noble and athletic person and he will be the first to be sorry.
“It is something that happens both for the coaches and the footballers. How many times have we seen the player asking the coach to keep him on the field?"
