Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy admits he came close to joining QPR last week.

Murphy told the Sunderland Echo: "The club accepted an offer for me from QPR and I was just trying to get my head round it when the gaffer called me in, sat me down and said he wanted to keep me at the club and give me a run in the team, and it was then up to me to fight for my place.

"I was really trying to get my head round the fact that I was leaving and then that happened.

"I just wanted to go out and play as well as I have always tried to play for Sunderland."
