Sunderland winger Jordan Henderson is delighted with his England U21 call.
Henderson, 20, made 38 appearances for the Black Cats last season.
He impressed U-21s boss Stuart Pearce enough to earn a call-up for the clash with Uzbekistan in Bristol next Tuesday.
Henderson said: "I've never met Stuart Pearce but I know he is a very good coach and I'm looking forward to working with him.
"I have to go there, impress and show what I can do. I want to concentrate on my football at Sunderland and hopefully I will become a regular at international level too."
Henderson admits he was delighted at getting the nod from Pearce.
He added: "I got the phone call yesterday and I'm absolutely over the moon.
"I've been capped at under-19 and under-20 level so this is the next step.
"It's a good boost before the new season's even started.
"My main aim has been to get into the first team at Sunderland on a regular basis, and anything else is an extra bonus."
