Jermain Defoe has begun discussions with AFC Bournemouth, according to Sky Sports.
The 34-year old contains a clause in his Sunderland contract that allows him to leave the club for free if they are relegated to the Championship, and the report suggests that Defoe has decided to start talks with the Cherries.
It is understood the former Spurs forward could complete a deal with the south coast club within the next few days.
The England striker scored 19 goals in 31 appearances during a prolific loan spell at Bournemouth back in 2000/01.
