Sunderland signing Anderson hands Aberdeen signing-on fee

New Sunderland defender Russell Anderson has donated his signing-on fee to Aberdeen's youth development programme.

Anderson, who has spent his entire career at Pittodrie, gave his personal fee from the transaction to the Aberdeen youth development programme that nurtured him. The 28-year-old decided to join the newly promoted Premier League side after meeting Roy Keane at the Stadium of Light and agreed a three-year contract.

"I am delighted we have secured Russell's signature," the Sunderland manager told the club website. "Naturally, we have had him watched a number of times and know all about the kind of player and character he is. He has a lot of experience and will provide competition for places at the back."
