Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has been told to push through a deal for Victor Caceres.
The Paraguay international midfielder is coming off contract at Libertad and wants to follow good friend Cristian Riveros to Wearside.
Bruce has been informed by his Paraguay scouts that Caceres will be a bargain buy and have likened him to former Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano, now of Barcelona.
On the open market, Caceres would demand a transfer fee of £6 million.
