Sunderland schemer Reid: Dip always going to happen

Sunderland midfielder Andy Reid says he always expected their present form dip.

Reid insists the players are still getting used to manager Steve Bruce's methods.

"Lots of people got ahead of themselves when we put a good run together, but I always felt it was going to be about steady progression," he told The Times. "We're still a new team and we haven't got a big squad.

"We're still getting to know the manager and he's imposing the way he wants us to play on the club and we have people who are still settling in. I always felt we'd have a tricky period - it's lasted longer than we wanted, of course, and we've probably got what we've deserved - but we never thought things would suddenly be perfect in the first six months. And I don't want to make excuses, but we've had plenty of injuries and suspensions."
