Stewart Donald, the owner of League OneSunderland, is set to sell the majority of his shares in the club to American businessman Mark Campbell, according to the Daily Mail.
The deal would see Campbell take a 74 per cent stake in the club, acquiring 64 per cent from Donald and a further ten per cent from Uruguayan investor Juan Sartori.
Donald and Sartori would each retain a ten per cent stake in the Wearside outfit, with executive director Charlie Methven likely to keep the six per cent share he was given by Donald for brokering the deal which saw him purchase the club from Ellis Short.
Should the deal be confirmed, it would see Donald sell his majority share in Sunderland just 13 months after buying the club for a reported UK£37 million.
