Sunderland are interested in Manchester United fullback Guillermo Varela.

Varela, after spending a season on-loan with Eintracht Frankfurt, has returned to United.

But the Uruguayan is expected to be offloaded by United boss Jose Mourinho this summer.

The Guardian says Sunderland are eyeing Varela, who accepts his time at Old Trafford is over.

A return to Eintracht has also been mentioned, despite the season ending in acrimony between Varela and some staff.
