Sunderland looking to offload Ferdinand

Sunderland may look to offload centre-back Anton Ferdinand in the January transfer window.

The 24-year old has fallen out of favour with Steve Bruce and could be sold for around £5million.

The fact that Bruce has opted to go with Michael Turner, Paolo Da Silva, John Mensah and Nyron Nosworthy in central defensive positions in front of Ferdinand does not bode well for the ex-West Ham defender who was close to a move to Tottenham in the summer.

Bruce was linked with Middlesbrough's David Wheater last week but denied any interest but is keen to strengthen his defence meaning Ferdinand may be facing the axe.
