Sunderland fullback Phil Bardsley is looking forward to returning to Manchester United.

Bardsley came through the ranks at Old Trafford and will never forget his first meeting with manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

He said: "I first met him as an apprentice when I was 16. My year also had Kieran Richardson in it.

"We went into his office and he found out one of the lads - David Poole - was a City fan. I can't say what happened after that but it was interesting!

"Last time I went back he said 'Don't kick any of my players or you're getting one yourself!' So I made sure I didn't."
