Sunderland have cleared Jack Rodwell off the books.
The Daily Mail says Rodwell has left Sunderland by mutual consent after they agreed to end his £73,000-a-week contract.
Rodwell's pay was due to drop to around £42,000 a week this season in League One with one year left on his contract.
The 27-year-old joined from Manchester City for £10.25million in 2014 but made just two Championship appearances last season.
A proposed move to Vitesse Arnhem failed to materialise but he is now a free agent with Greek side Aris among those to have made an enquiry.
