Sunderland defender Ferdinand: Noble one to watch

Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand has told fans Ryan Noble is one to watch.

The former England U21 captain enjoyed a valuable run-out in a private friendly at the Academy of Light last week - his piece of match action for over two months.

Up against teenage striker Ryan Noble, Ferdinand was given a tough examination by the "impressive" youngster and now feels he's ready to jump straight back into senior action.

"I played in a behind-closed-doors game last week; 45 minutes for the reserves against the youth team," he told safc.com. "I was up against Ryan Noble and he gave me a tough time, testing me on the ground and coming short.

"It was good for me and also good for him to play against someone with my experience. He did very well. Getting a good, solid 45 minutes under my belt was pleasing and I've had a solid 10 days' training now.

"I'm confident in my natural fitness and ability and I will be raring to go against Arsenal, if selected."
