Sunderland are closing in on a deal for Tottenham striker Darren Bent.

The Daily Star says if the Black Cats can match Spurs' £10m valuation, Bent could become one of new boss Steve Bruce's first signings.

Bent is understood to have been told he is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane and the Sunderland boss is ready to make a move.
