Sunderland boss Gus Poyet insists Fabio Borini can still make Italy's World Cup squad.
Borini is on-loan from Liverpool.
"He's a good character,'' said Poyet.
"When he plays, he gives 100 per cent. He's played wide but when he's played up front he's given us something special.
"It's always good to go to the World Cup finals and I'm sure Fabio is trying to do that."
