Sunderland boss Gus Poyet insists he wants to keep Lee Cattermole.

The midfielder saw a bid from Stoke City turned down for him last week.

Poyet remarked: "Because he is a very, very important player and I am delighted that the chairman said to me, 'if you need him he stays'. It is about having the players you need to stay up and Lee is one of those."
