Sunderland boss Poyet coy on future of MLS target Altidore

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet was playing his cards close to his chest when quizzed on the situation of Jozy Altidore.

The 25-year old American striker continues to be linked with a return to Major League Soccer with the likes of Toronto FC, Portland Timbers and New York Red Bulls all believed to be showing interest.

Poyet hinted that Altidore could be on the way out sometime this month but stopped short of suggesting where and when any transfer would occur.

"They know more in America than me," said Poyet.

"The agent was coming over two or three months ago but, since then, nothing.

"Officially there has been no approach for any of our players so we need to wait. But with Jozy things are clear - we talk together a lot and we are both very clear on what the future should bring."

Altidore joined the Black Cats from AZ Alkmaar in July 2013 but has scored just three goals in all competitions for the Wearside outfit.
