Sunderland boss Bruce sticking with lone striker system

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce intends to stick with his lone striker system.

The system seems to have worked well, yielding a total of five points from clashes with Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

And he says the system is becoming "very popular" with a number of managers.

"Some people call it 4-5-1 but I call it 4-3-3! The three midfield players in the middle have suited us, but that's not to say we're not a threat going forwards," he told safc.com.

"As we've seen, we scored two goals at Liverpool and it could have been more with a little bit of luck.

"If you look at the top teams now, very few go with two out-and-out strikers. 4-5-1, 4-3-3, whatever you want to call it, is becoming very popular with a lot of people."
