Sunderland begin player clean-out

Sunderland have begun their player clean-out, getting rid of seven from last season's squad.

Former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke heads the list of departing Black Cats who will see many changes occur at the club before next season begins.

Already, manager Ricky Sbragia resigned and then American businessman Ellis Short assumed complete control of the club.

Now the playing list is in the first stage of being turned over.

Along with Yorke, striker David Connolly, midfielder Arnau Riera, goalkeeping duo Darren Ward and Nick Colgan and defenders Peter Hartley and Niall McArdle have all been let go by the club.
