Sunderland and Stoke play out scoreless draw

Sunderland have been held to a 0-0 draw by Stoke City at the Stadium of Light on Monday night.

In a lacklustre match, neither side had clear cut chances to win the match although the Black Cats did have a strong penalty appeal for handball turned down around the hour-mark.

With Sunderland being unable to win, their recent run now stands at one victory in their past 14 outings which has seen them fall down the table although this result did enable them to move a point further away from the drop zone.

Stoke went to 26 points with the draw and are two clear of Sunderland in 12th position on the table.

Both clubs enjoy home fixtures this weekend with Sunderland hosting Wigan and Stoke taking on Blackburn.
