Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez says he has no intention of apologising to Ghana.

Suarez was the subject of controversy during the 2010 World Cup quarter-final, when he deliberately hand-balled a Ghana shot to ensure they did not score.

Uruguay went on to win the game, as Ghana missed the resulting spot kick, with Suarez getting a red card for his ultimately game saving action.

"The first time, I don't apologise about that," said Suarez in a press conference on Thursday.

“I take the handball - but the Ghana player missed a penalty, not me.

“Maybe I apologise if I injure a player but in this situation, I take a red card, the referee says penalty, it's not my fault."

He added: "I didn't miss the penalty. It's not my fault.

"It's 12 years ago. It's the past. I've played against (Giorgio) Chiellini too, and we shook hands."
