Newcastle United are interested in VfB Stuttgart fullback Borna Sosa.

BILD says Newcastle and Inter Milan are eyeing Sosa, who is with Croatia's World Cup squad in Qatar.

"The WC is a brutal showcase," said VfB sporting director Sven Mislintat. "But my clear wish is that Borna stays.

"He is an absolute quality player. It would be difficult enough to replace him during the summer.

"A transfer during the winter would not be good. It would weaken us. It is very important that we keep the quality in the squad. Then we will be strong enough to stay up in the league."
