Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino admits Real Madrid made an offer for him last summer.
However, the Argentine revealed Spurs chairman Daniel Levy rejected the approach.
He told El Pais: "The situation was difficult. Every trainer's dream was at stake: leading one of the biggest teams in existence. And you have to say no. It's terrible.
"I had just extended with Tottenham. And I felt that I could not do anything. Daniel Levy did not accept the offers to let me go and, if they ask me to break my contract, I cannot accept it because I cannot behave like that. These are not my values.
"Why would it be good for a club to recruit a coach who does not respect his commitments?"
