Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu admits his late personal intervention rescued the deal for Frenkie de Jong.

Bartomeu revealed the Ajax midfielder was all set to sign for PSG before face-to-face talks with the youngster last month.

He recalled: "Knowing that Frenkie De Jong had chosen to sign for PSG and decline the proposal of Barça, I decided to take a plane to Amsterdam."

And in the end Bartomeu clinched De Jong's commitment ahead of PSG sports chief Antero Henrique.

De Jong will join Barca this summer for a fee rising to €86m.
