Scotland boss Gordon Strachan will look to hand debuts to a bunch of untried players against Croatia next month.
The Scotland side's 2014 World Cup campaign is all about planning for the future after their chances of heading to Brazil were quashed with a loss to Serbia in March and Strachan is set to try some inexperienced talent, in terms of international and European football, in Zagreb on June 7.
"The thing about these players, if you look at my squad, not many of them play European football," said Strachan upon announcing his 28-man squad.
"I've got to find out now if they can adjust to the style of European football and everything it entails.
"There is no point waiting for another year. We will find out now and give them the chance.
"We will not make a decision on one game whether they're going to have an international career but we will give them a chance to sample it.
"We might as well find out now and give them competitive games.
"Our chance is gone but Croatia will be competitive so the players are coming up against a competitive nation.
"Friendlies are useful, yes, but they don't have that edge to them and there will be an edge to this game."
The likes of 32-year old Brighton & Hove Albion defender Gordon Greer, Dundee United youngsters Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven, Aberdeen midfielder Ryan Jack and Celtic starlet Tony Watt have all been included for the Croatia match and could make their international debuts at the Stadion Maksimir.
