Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington has backed old club Tottenham's move for William Gallas.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says this morning a deal is close for former Arsenal captain Gallas.
Etherington told talkSPORT: "It is a bold move but I think he's a top player.
"He's very, very experienced and I think if Spurs want to push on then they need strength in depth. And that's probably one area where they are a little bit short, so I think it's a good signing.
"It gives them cover, it gives them experience and he is a top player. I know he has come from Arsenal, and there is a lot of hatred between the Spurs fans and the Arsenal fans, but sometimes you have got to look beyond that."
