Stoke turn to Portsmouth keeper James

A Stoke City move for Portsmouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has broken down.

The Mirror says Stoke have gone back in for David James, 39, as they have struggled to complete a £3m deal for his Portsmouth team mate Begovic, even though the Bosnian keeper wants to go to the Britannia.

Debt-ridden Portsmouth would rather sell Begovic to Tottenham who they still owe cash to and if that deal happens then Stoke have got James lined up.

Tottenham will also keep tabs on James who started in goal for Portsmouth at Manchester City yesterday and needs just ten more appearances to trigger an automatic one-year contract extension.
