Stoke City are willing to compromise over Liam Lawrence's failed transfer to Portsmouth.
The Sun says toke plan to turn Lawrence's move to Portsmouth into a loan due to doubts over whether the deal beat the deadline.
It is believed Pompey lodged the paperwork 15 minutes too late for it to be registered.
Winger Lawrence moved to Portsmouth along with Dave Kitson as part of a deal that took Pompey captain Marc Wilson in the opposite direction.
Wilson's move will not be affected as Stoke bid to loan Lawrence out until January when the deal will become permanent.
