Stoke plan new contract talks with Begovic

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates plans to offer new terms to goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Begovic's current deal has two years to run, but the club is keen to uphold his market value - anything around the £15m mark - by preventing him coming within 12 months of becoming a free agent, says The Sentinel.

Coates says there's been no interest in Begovic since his World Cup debut... and he hopes there won't be.

But he acknowledges the need to prevent the Bosnian's contract running down by stating: "We have to protect ourselves."
