Stoke keeper Begovic launches attack on Portsmouth

Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has slammed Portsmouth for the way he was sold last month.

Begovic, 22, was forced to join Stoke for £3.5million pounds on transfer deadline day in a desperate bid to raise cash to stop Pompey going bust.

He said: "It is a travesty what has gone on at that football club and how it has happened.

"I was not looking to leave - circumstances decided that.

"I was there at Wembley with everyone else and at the time nobody was thinking about what was happening. It did not occur to us where the money was coming from and how it could be afforded.

"That is not down to the players - that is down to the people running the club. They chased the dream and lost. This is the result.

"As a player there is nothing you can do about it. If there was, you would.

"It is terrible for the fans and people working so hard in the background."
