Stoke hero Pejic impressed by Muniesa, Pieters

Stoke City hero Mike Pejic is happy to see big competition at left- back.

Pejic says Marc Muniesa will give Erik Pieters a tough battle for a spot in Stoke's defence next season.

He told The Sentinel: "Pieters is better defensively and Muniesa is probably the more natural going forward. He has great use of the ball in attacking situations.

"Marc Wilson always did well in that role, but these two left-footers are giving the team balance. We're in a healthy position. It's good to see."

Muniesa, aged 22, has provided cover at centre-half, but Pejic is convinced he will only flourish at left-back.

"He looks much more at home there than the middle because he has the freedom to move around," he said.

"I get worried when he's at centre-back and pops up on the wing. He needs to know when to go and when to stay and I definitely see him as a left-back.

"He will need to defend better and improve in one-on-ones against players with pace or who can dribble, but it looks like he is adapting well to a whole new culture."
