Stoke have Walters appeal turned down

Stoke City have had their appeal for forward Jon Walters' red card rejected.

The Republic of Ireland international was sent off in the 78th minute of the Potters' 1-1 draw with Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Walters saw red for a foul on Alexander Tettey, just five minutes after scoring an equalising penalty, and Stoke went up against the automatic three-match suspension but the Football Association has revealed they were unsuccessful.

"Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today, a claim of wrongful dismissal concerning Stoke City's Jonathan Walters was rejected," read an official statement from the FA.

"Walters was dismissed for serious foul play during the game against Norwich City on 8 March 2014.

"His three-match suspension will commence with immediate effect."

Walters, who has scored four Premier League goals this season, will miss fixtures with West Ham United, Aston Villa and Hull City.
