Stoke goalkeeper Begovic determined to be No. 1

Asmir Begovic is well aware that clubs need two goalkeepers in modern football.

The Stoke City goalkeeper is being linked with a possible departure this summer with such clubs as Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and even Chelsea being mentioned.

Despite not knowing if he will leave the Britannia Stadium and where he may end up, Begovic does know that he wants to be the number one wherever he plays.

"A lot of teams now can't afford to have just one goalkeeper, you have to have two," Begovic told the Daily Mail.

"Look at Bayern Munich. They have Manuel Neuer and Pepe Reina. Look at Chelsea (Courtois and Cech), Real Madrid, you have Keylor Navas and Iker Casillas.

"A lot of teams want to have the best keepers. But sometimes that doesn't suit everyone. Some guys are just programmed to play every week. Play and be the No 1.

"I'm always open minded to everything in football. But one of the things I've always done in my career is to be a No1. For me, that's the main goal."
