Stoke defender Wollscheid eyeing long EFL Cup run

Stoke City defender Philipp Wollscheid is eyeing a long EFL Cup run.

Last season, Mark Hughes' men reached the semi-finals before going out 6-5 to Liverpool on penalties.

German defender Wollscheid played in all six rounds of last year's competition and would love to go one step further this time - starting by downing Stevenage tonight.

He said: “It's a cup game so it's completely different. We have to do what it takes to get into the next round.

“Last year we were so close to getting to the final and we want to do better this season. Every round gets bigger and it starts again at Stevenage.

“It's the next challenge and we want to win every single match, in league or cup, if we can. We will see where that takes us."
