Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross hopes to play his way back into the England squad next season.
Shawcross was an unused substitute for the national side during the 3-1 friendly win over Egypt in March but was not selected for the World Cup.
The 22-year-old told BBC Radio Stoke: "We have a lot of good players in my position, so it's going to be difficult to get into the team.
"Hopefully, I can get into the squad. To play is a dream of mine."
