Stoke chief Scholes 'puzzled' by link with Man Utd forward Rooney

Stoke City chief executive Tony Scholes does not understand the rumours linking Wayne Rooney to the Bet365 Stadium.

Rooney is widely expected to be leaving Manchester United this summer and recently, reports have been gathering steam claiming that the 31-year-old could be making a shock move to Stoke City.

However, Scholes has now gone on to quash such rumors by categorically stating that his club have not had any talks with the striker regarding a transfer and added that he has been left bemused by such a speculation.

Scholes said: "What I can't do is shed any light on where the rumours have come from. That happens at this time of year. We have some speculation, some of it is based upon some truth, no smoke without fire, but other times you get wild speculation, and the Wayne Rooney one falls into the latter category.

"Wayne Rooney has been one of the best players of his generation. He has been, and still is, a great football player. But there have been no conversations whatsoever about Wayne Rooney coming to Stoke."
