New Stoke City signing Josh Tymon will be able to put pressure on Erik Pieters straight away, says Potters manager Mark Hughes.
The former Hull City left-back signed for City last week and is expected to make his debut against Neuchatel Xamax on Monday night.
And Hughes is confident the 18-year old can challenge Pieters to enhance his own game this season.
"Josh is here to push Erik Pieters. Obviously Erik is the senior partner in the club but we feel that he's got the ability," Peters told The Sentinel.
"He's played in the Premier League already and understands what it's about. We feel he can push Erik and I think that will help Erik as well."
