Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has explained the logic behind the new system he deployed during the Potters' clash against Bolton Wanderers.
Stoke continued their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 victory over Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers on Sunday and one of the interesting things about the game was their unconventional 3-5-2 formation.
Speaking after the game, Hughes said: "The system's not unknown to us. We'll use it at some point in the season and it's another string to our bow. We shouldn't be afraid to look at that.
"In terms of the personnel we had today I think some of them benefit from it and they enjoy it, in fairness. We had a lot of possession and good play, good angles to our passes.
“We need a little bit more in terms of number of chances at the top end of the pitch but in the first half we hit the crossbar twice through Shaq. We were created chances and just needed to take them."
