Stockport expect appointment of new manager shortly

League Two Stockport hope to appoint a new manager "in the next day or two." County parted company with Gary Ablett after last season`s relegation and the club's new owners are set to name his successor before the end of the week.

The 2015 Group - including chief executive Sean Connolly and chairman Alwin Thompson - are finalising their search for a new boss.

Connolly, who confirmed former boss Jim Gannon is a serious candidate, told Press Association Sport: "We are getting closer and are piling through the applications.

"Time is not on our side as the players are due back for pre-season training next week, but we hope to name a new manager in the next day or two."
