STATS SPECIAL: Man Utd's Rooney sets new record while Stoke's Crouch uses his head

Wayne Rooney became the first player in Barclays Premier League history to score a certain amount of goals per season as Peter Crouch joined an England legend on the header list.

Stats compiled by Opta

VILLA DON'T LIKE THE TOON

- Aston Villa's 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at St James' Park is their seventh match in a row against the Magpies without a win. They have drawn three and lost four of those encounters.

HOME COMFORTS FOR BAGGIES' BERAHINO

- Saido Berahino's 2nd-minute goal in West Bromwich Albion's 1-0 win over Southampton was his 15th at The Hawthorns out of his 17 strikes in all competitions this season.

CISSE'S REJUVENATION

- Papiss Cisse's match-winner in Newcastle's 1-0 home triumph over Villa was his 11th in the BPL this season, surpassing his overall tally of 10 over the past two seasons. He now has a goal every 84 minutes which is the best minutes-per-goal ratio in the league.

ROONEY TONS UP AT HOME…

- Wayne Rooney's double in Manchester United's 2-0 win over Sunderland at Old Trafford took his BPL home tally to 100 goals, 93 of which he has scored for the Red Devils and seven with Everton.

…AND CREATES NEW BPL RECORD

- Rooney's brace took his season tally to 10 goals making him the first player in BPL history to score 10 or more goals in 11 consecutive seasons. Since joining United in 2004, Rooney has netted 11, 16, 14, 12, 12, 26, 11, 27, 12, 17 and 10 goals in each of the campaigns.

CROUCH THINKING AHEAD

- Peter Crouch's header in the 71st minute of Stoke City's 1-0 home win over Hull City was his 46th BPL goal of the kind. He has now equaled Alan Shearer's record of headed goals in the history of the league.

STERLING HAVING A BALL

- Raheem Sterling's pair of assists in Liverpool's 2-1 win over Manchester City means he has now been involved in 13 BPL goals this season, the most of any Reds player. He has scored six and assisted seven this term, with three of those assists being scored by Jordan Henderson.

GIROUD DIGS HIS TEETH INTO SOME TOFFEE

- Olivier Giroud's goal in Arsenal's 2-0 win over Everton was his fourth in four outings against the Toffees. The French striker scored a late equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park in August last year and a brace in the 4-1 FA Cup win at the Emirates in March.

ARSENAL ON A HOME RUN

- Arsenal's win over Everton at the Emirates Stadium was their seventh consecutive BPL win at home which is the first time they have achieved that feat since 2005.
