Defeat at Real Madrid has Xavi now among Barcelona's worst coaches over their first 50 games in charge.
Xavi has a record of 28 wins, 11 draws and 11 losses. Frank Rijkaard had very similar numbers, but better: the Dutchman started his stage with the same number of victories but achieved one more draw and one less defeat. Luis Enrique is the one who made the most promising start on the Barça bench: 42 wins, three draws and five defeats.
In between, there were Pep Guardiola, Tata Martino, Tito Vilanova, Ernesto Valverde and Ronald Koeman.
The Manchester City manager and the Argentine achieved, in their first 50 games, 37 wins, eight draws and five losses. Vilanova began his career on the bench with 36 wins, eight draws and six losses. The Athletic Bilbao coach, for his part, achieved the same number of successes, but drew 11 and lost three.
Koeman, Xavi's predecessor on the bench, won 33 of his first 50 games, added a point in seven and was defeated in 10.
