Star showing surprises Everton youngster McAleny

Everton youngster Conor McAleny has admitted that even he was surprised by his stunning performance during the Toffees' victory over Swindon Town.

Everton claimed a 4-0 victory over Town in a pre-season friendly on the weekend and despite the plethora of stars turning out for the Toffees, it was little known McAleny who stole the show with a fine performance.

McAleny has now risen to prominence among the fans following his display and the striker has admitted that even he was taken by surprise with his performance on the day.

The 22-year old, who was involved in the first three goals before scoring Everton's fourth, said: "I wasn't expecting that myself! At this stage, it's all about just getting that sharpness and fitness, but I will take that any day!

"It was a good set up by Rom (Lukaku) for my goal, and vice versa. I was pleased I could set up his goal too. It's massive as a striker to get a goal. It's given me a little bit of confidence now to take into the next game and into the rest of pre-season. That's all I can do.

"(The victory at Swindon) will give the lads a good bit of confidence, with two hard games coming up in Singapore. We just have to take the confidence out of this win into those games."
